
You are invited to submit a single work in any medium to be considered for this popular and prestigious event. The Mayor’s Art Show, sponsored by the Oregon Eye Associates since 1986, is open during the Eugene Celebration to showcase the artistic excellence and diversity of recent work by visual artists living in Lane County.
The show opens in the Jacobs Gallery Thursday, September 6, with a Public Reception and Awards Ceremony at 5:30 pm in the main lobby of the Hult Center for the Performing Arts. Jury awards totaling $1,000 will be announced. Other special awards will be presented at this time. Please join us in celebrating the visual arts and paying tribute to all artists at this special event.
All entrants are required to return to the Jacobs Gallery on Saturday, September 1, from 11 am to 6 p.m. At that time a list posted at the entrance will indicate who will sign exhibition agreements and who will pick up work.
All work entered on Monday, August 27 will be displayed by medium for jurying. Entry labels will not be visible to the jurors and ballots will not include artists’ names. A panel of three jurors will independently select works for exhibition in the 2007 Mayor’s Art Show. To ensure an exciting and balanced show, jurors are instructed to make selections that will showcase a sampling of some of the best recent work created by Lane County artists.
Terrence E. Carter, MD: BA Whitman College 1962, MD University of Washington 1966 & Fellowship Orthopedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic 1970-1974
Carter is retired from active practice as Orthopedic Surgeon, He is on the Board of Trustee for Cascade Health Services and Member Governing Board of McKenzie Willamette Medical Center. Carter is also a collector of original works of art primarly by Pacific Northwest Artists. He developed an interest in modern and contemporary art in the early 1960’s and have been looking and collecting art ever since.
Sarah Grew: BA University of Michigan 1982
Grew is an artist that has been creating work involving collage, installation, paint-ing, photography and eco or environmental art for over a decade. She has taught and collaborated on a number of public art projects for schools and worked in the paintings conservation laboratory at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Grew has traveled extensively to enhance her understanding of various art forms.
Sue T. Keene: MM Music 1972, BA Music & Humanities, Stanford University 1959
Among the numerous professional and community involvement, Keene is current Chair for the Arts Foundation of Western Oregon, past Chairman of the Oregon Arts Commission and former Acting Director for the University of Oregon Museum of Art. Keene has been very involved in a variety of UO organizations, such as a UO Foundation Trustee since 1999.
