About Jacobs Gallery
The Jacobs Gallery has served as the cultural anchor of downtown’s art district since it first opened in 1987. Whether you are on a First Friday ArtWalk, meeting friends for lunch, or showing visitors the sights of Eugene, a stop at the Jacobs Gallery can lift your spirits and enliven your mind with its showcase of fresh ideas and original vision.

The non-profit Jacobs Gallery is a destination for area artists and art lovers. Located downtown in Eugene’s Hult Center for the Performing Arts, the Jacobs Gallery offers a year-round schedule of art exhibits. It also hosts the annual Mayor’s Art Show – an exciting and prestigious celebration of Lane County artists that is a highlight of the Eugene Celebration.

Exhibiting ArtistsFinding Your Spotlight at the Jacobs Gallery

A Call to Artists goes out every two years. Adding your contact information to the Jacobs Gallery mailing list ensures that you’ll receive entry forms for both the biannual Exhibition Season and the annual Mayor’s Art Show. Current Call to Artists will also be found on the website.

The Exhibition Committee selects and solicits both solo and group shows, for a 1 year schedule. To enter the Mayor’s Art Show, Lane County artists, 18 years or older, deliver one piece of work in person to the gallery, where it is received by volunteers and subsequently viewed by the panel of jurors. Any work that is not selected for the Mayor’s Art Show may be displayed in the Salon des Refusé. The Mayor’s Art Show experience has become a rite of passage for Lane County artists, new and seasoned pros alike.

Art Appreciationa Never-Ending Discovery

A cadre of dedicated staff and volunteers works hard to keep the Jacobs Gallery humming. The Gallery Director facilitates the behind-the-scenes business, from distributing information and press releases, to taking care of details for upcoming shows. The Gallery Designer works with a crew of skilled volunteers to arrange and hang each month’s show. The Gallery Guides volunteer their time to serve as gallery hosts, forging the public’s relationship with the Jacobs Gallery on a daily basis. The Guides spend four hours per shift in the Gallery, and enjoy the benefits of spending extended time in a place of art.

The Gallery Guides also serve as the core of volunteer operations for the Mayor’s Art Show. Truly a community effort, the volunteers for the Mayor’s Art Show do everything from taking in and organizing the hundreds of pieces submitted by area artists, to hosting the Gallery’s extended viewing times during the Eugene Celebration.

If you’d like to help celebrate the high quality and diversity of work and artists that the Jacobs Gallery showcases, consider offering your time as a volunteer Gallery Guide, a Mayor’s Art Show helper, or Exhibition Installation volunteer.

The Jacobs Gallery’s exhibiting artists range from new talents to established treasures from Lane County and beyond. Our education and outreach programs, including the Artists’ Insight Gallery Talks that accompany each show, offer the community a glimpse into the creative process of an artist. The Jacobs Gallery encourages its artists to connect with the many visitors of the Gallery, and provides various opportunities to make that happen. Hearing artists discuss their creative methods and motivations expands the community’s understanding of art. A greater understanding of art often brings a greater capacity for reflection and inspiration, and can open eyes and minds to new possibilities and ways of seeing.
